Close Combat Edge of Hand
Today's lesson is exactly why I don't recommend EVER teaching Close Combat to boys under 18... The edge of hand strike is such a powerful, easy movement, that when someone is made aware of its power it is hard to resist the temptation to use it. A few summers ago at the town police department fundraiser, a number of us were standing around talking while our toddlers ran around on the grass. About 50 yards away were a mixed company of the older, 12-13 year kids. Something happened (an argument over a girl as it turned out), and from across the parking lot we saw Lieutenant Joe's son get pushed by a much bigger boy none of us recognized. "Oh, crap" I muttered as I scooped up my 2-year old and started running towards the shoving match. I knew what was coming and it was not going to be good. Halfway across the lot and there it was...Joe Jr. bringing his hand up in the air and dropping an edge of hand like a tomahawk onto the other boy's clavicle...just like I'd taught his dad to do. The bigger kid crumpled to the ground like a sack of potatoes right at little Joe's feet and whacked his head, CRACK, on the blacktop. The hospital trip revealed a shattered collarbone and about 30 stitches to close up the big punk's split open melon. Needless to say...If a 4 foot 9, 112 pound 11 year old can drop a bigger, meaner, tougher, older opponent with only being shown the technique ONCE by his dad, can you even imagine the damage you could do after I show you all the ins-and-outs of the devastating "Edge-of-hand"? While the short video above will give you the obvious and most basic principles, my full Close Combat Training course (For More Details Click Here) dives much deeper into this truly amazing "gap filling" fighting tactic. Fear No Man,
PS. If you have a daughter, then the "not teaching to kids" rule goes out the window. Girls are more mature and emotionally intelligent than their cavemanesque, teenage boy counterparts. I not only recommend teaching young women these skills, I INSIST that you do.
