For anyone who has studied any of the martial arts styles at any point in their life, the Karate Creed may be something you have heard before. In keeping with the tone of my last post, I am posting the Karate Creed here today.
I like to keep up on stories around the country in which self defense training (often misspelled self defence training) could have come in handy. I will never say what a victim should have done; I just find it necessary to look for glaring reasons why it is helpful to learn self defense; or at least some martial arts moves!
There are many aspects to self defense that we don’t automatically think about. Many people question which of the martial arts styles serves best for self defense. People question whether ANY martial arts styles makes up the ideal form of self defense.
I said there were plenty more weapons, and here they are! In all my years of studying and teaching military self defense, I have never underestimated the value of tools. And tools are whatever you can find. Tools can be your fists or feet; it can be the martial arts training that you have received, or the training you have taken in military self defense.
So much of what we focus on when we take a self defense course or learn martial arts is about physical movement. Indeed, it is the actual strikes and kicks that deliver a blow to your attacker. Indeed, there is no self defense without physical movement.
