Self Defense For Life

Self Defense MovesWorkplace violence.  Road rage.  Domestic violence.  School violence.  These are just a few terms that have become well-known over the course of the last several years.  It doesn’t seem like very long ago when you could drive to work and walk through the parking garage without a second thought.  But today, it seems like there are increasing stories of violence on the evening news and in the papers.

Sure, you could change the channel or turn the page, but the bottom line is that we live in violent societies.  Our neighborhoods don’t contain only friendly neighbors.  Sometimes the danger comes from closer than one would like to think.

These facts are not meant to alarm you.  They are just the facts.  The danger comes when you don’t give them an ounce of protection.  When you deny the fact that we all live in an environment where violence is possible, you set yourself up to become a victim.  Those who are aware of the realities of the world we live in are not cynical; they are not paranoid; they will be prepared.

Self-defense is another term that has made its way into the mainstream.  What self-defense does is counteracts potential violence.  It could refer to actual hand to hand self-defense techniques or the defending of your property through things like home alarm systems and proper lighting.  But for the most part, people will look at self-defense in terms of personal safety against an attack from another person, not home safety techniques.

Every person has the right to live out their life freely and without harm.  No one should have to encounter the instance of physical harm due to another person’s temper or lack of control.  You have the right to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your home.  This is a right of life.  Whether or not you actually take action to do these things is your choice.  If you were to drop the assumptions that self-defense techniques take years to learn and perfect, would you choose to take action to learn to defend yourself?  See our Home Page for more information.

Self defense contains three major components.  There are self-defense techniques (and a lot of them!); then there are the training methods to learn them, and the strategies to implement them.  Self-defense techniques can consist of strikes to disarming areas of the body such as the nose or the groin.  The training methods are how you learn and practice the techniques you are trying to master.  And then strategies are your plan.  If you know the techniques and how to use them, but have no plan of attack, your efforts to protect yourself may fall short and even fail.

For instance, part of really being effective at defending yourself or another person is being aware and being ready.  Again, this comes back to the old misconception that some people are paranoid.  No.  If you don’t know what could possibly happen, then you won’t know how to respond to it.  You must entertain ideas of possible scenarios or your mind and body might just freeze up were you to ever find yourself in a potentially violent situation.  An important factor in effective self-defense is your mindset.

Quickie Classes fro Self DefenseIf you want to create more safety around your home and your body, don’t become overwhelmed by the many self-defense techniques you might hear about.  This is the fastest way to thwart your progress in maintaining a safe environment.  What you need is information.  Once you have that, you can choose the best method of self-defense for your personal situation.  We are all different, with different life circumstances.  Someone in law enforcement will have a need quite different than the average homemaker because law enforcement is guaranteed to see more potentially dangerous situations.  However, that does not mean that both could not benefit from the same self-defense techniques.  They may just approach training at a different degree of intensity.

To get started in self-defense does not have to be time consuming; nor does it need to be an expensive endeavor.  The main goal is to learn ways to better protect yourself.  Click Here for our dvd page.  Although actual self-defense techniques are the biggest feature, you cannot forget that the best training will include preparing you for scenarios you may encounter.

Self-defense is very hands-on in nature.  You’ve got to get comfortable being face to face with another person and laying into them with all you’ve got.  Self-defense is not about the loud yell, although that plays a part.  Defending yourself may come down to finding an object you can use as a weapon; it may come down to knowing how to throw off a person who is bigger and stronger than you.

Ok, so there’s an endless stream of information that you can get about self-defense; but we cannot miss this big aspect of it.  No matter what form of self-defense you learn; no matter how many self-defense techniques you master; you will come away with a new understanding of your body and a new appreciation for yourself.  As stated early on in this article, every person has the right to defend themselves, their loved ones and their property.  When you make the choice to learn the best ways to keep yourself safe, you will experience a sense of accomplishment and pride like very little else in life will give you.

Self defense is an active sport that reaches far beyond just getting in shape.  When you prepare both the body and the mind for potential situations, you create a powerful being that is inherently safer because of the energy that you put off.  When you know how to defend yourself, others can see it; sense it, and you become less of a target just because of the confidence you walk with; a confidence that says you cannot be a victim.

Sometimes life throws curveballs.  Sometimes bad things happen.  Sometimes violence cannot be avoided.  If and when you ever find yourself in a situation that cannot be diffused with words, wouldn’t it be comforting to know you have effective self-defense techniques that you can rely upon to keep you safe?
