Mix Martial Arts

Mix martial arts is what everyone should do that wants to survive a street fight. Sure you might have your favorite style that you train in regularly, but does it handle every self defense situation? Do you only know how to strike or only how to grapple? Well, you need to know both, and you had better throw out all those ideas of fair play and sportsmanship. You need to do whatever you have to survive so don’t limit yourself. When you start mixing styles you begin to find moves that can be used in any situation, and you won’t be limited.

Most styles have limitations to prevent injuries from happening during a match. In Muay Thai matches only striking is allowed like in boxing so fighters don’t know how to grapple or fight on the ground. Those who wrestle really don’t learn how to strike because isn’t allowed in Greco-Roman matches. Those who practice Karate today don’t learn the deadly strikes that were once common in the style. You need to know how to fight not just do a sport. It is like the sport of fencing which you need to help train you, but it isn’t sword fighting. When you strike you are trying to hurt your attacker and when you get close and grapple do every dirty trick you know and use any move you want in a street fight. If you see a good technique in a different style don’t be prejudice. Take time and learn the technique, it doesn’t mean that you have to abandon what you know, your simply expanding your knowledge.

Therefore, mix martial arts to survive street fighting while learning to master your style of choice. You may be bound by rules and regulations during a tournament or match in your martial arts school, but on the street it is truly no holds barred combat. You can afford to be limited, because you will be the only one who gets hurt. Do what works not just what you have trained to do out on the mat. If you have questions try to get answer from your instructor on what to do in a given situation and if you don’t find an answer seek it else where. You can’t tell an attacker you haven’t covered what is happening to you in class yet so learn to supplement your training.
