Book Kung Fu

Kung Fu is one of the oldest and riches forms of martial arts, and is practiced around the world. Kung Fu is a general term that applies to all Chinese martial arts styles, so there are many forms. Many people know that there are a number of forms named after animals like tiger, monkey, and crane Kung Fu – which are modeled after the animals they’re named after. Wushu the newest form of Kung Fu, doesn’t work for self defense, but is a great performance art for martial arts movies. Karate’s early founders first learned Kung Fu, and many other combat systems took moves from it as well. Kung Fu has become part of the popular culture so it isn’t surprising that you want to study it – but you have to be careful with book Kung Fu.

There is a lot of great information out there that will help you with your study of Chinese martial arts, but book Kung Fu is only the start, and it might not be what you want to know. You don’t have to learn a new religion to learn Kung fu, but many of its principals are based on Buddhist teachings. That being said, even training at Shaolin temples is available to all people who want to learn no matter what their background is. The real question is why do you want to study this type of martial arts? What do you want to get out of the experience, and how much time do you have to spend working on developing your skills?

Book learning is great, but you have to realize it will only take you so far. Maybe you want to learn Kung Fu for self defense in which case most of what you will probably find out there won’t be what you need. If you can find books about practical Kung Fu martial arts training great – but it won’t be easy. You might want to look into World War II combatives though because those who developed them took the best moves from Kung Fu and stripped away anything that wasn’t necessary. If you want flashy moves that are only good for fake fights you will find plenty out there, but real Kung Fu was all about self defense.
