Training vs Capability

karate fightThe popularity of martial arts has maintained throughout the years. There is a lot of good about martial arts; the focus one gains; the awareness they develop of their own body and energy… The list goes on and on. However, while the list of benefits of martial arts is good and long, it doesn’t necessary give you the capability to overcome an attacker. When you consider the realities of violence and violent crimes, you have to ask yourself how training compares to capability.

Martial arts training is typically based on sport. If you’ve been to a competitive “fight”, there is a referee and points being doled out to one participant or another. Straight to the point, there are rules to follow. Get into an altercation while you are out with your buddies one night, and that referee won’t jump out to watch and score every move. Nope, you’re on your own here and in any ordinary street fight or act of violence, the bad guy isn’t following any rules. He’s got only one or two things on his mind: how to get what you have, or how to hurt you, or both.

If you have been trained in any form of martial arts; you’ve got the training to be able to fight in a ring or in the dojo. You may even be able to hold your own in certain scenarios; but the reality is that crime and violence are far different than what martial arts prepares you for. This doesn’t mean don’t train in martial arts; it means expand your training to include some reality based self defense as well.

If you already have training in martial arts, then adding self defense techniques to your toolbox comes easy. You can learn right at home in your free time using the expansive self defense videos that I have developed. Each self defense video covers step by step instruction on the various moves you need to effectively stop an attack from happening.

Self defense videos are a great way to learn because you can stop and try moves as they are shown; or you can slow down the speed to best see exactly where strikes are being aimed. There is no reason to believe that you cannot adequately learn from a self defense video. As long as you put in the practice that’s necessary to commit self defense to memory, you will have what it takes to go up against any opponent.

In martial arts sport, it is often seen that opponents are paired with others of the same class. This could be weight related as well as experience related. This is not something that occurs in the real world. Most of the time, a bad guy is going to target a smaller, seemingly weaker person. The self defense videos that I have prepared show you how to eliminate any threat, regardless of size.

If you’ve got training in martial arts, that is a great thing and you have a leg up on people who have no training at all. Self defense training paired with what you already know can turn you into a powerhouse of personal safety.
