No More Mr. Nice Guy

Fixing an AttackerI find it interesting how many people are opposed to violence. Now, don’t get me wrong; I certainly don’t walk into a new place and punch the first person who looks at me! However, as stated in an earlier post, only 2 percent of the population will actually use force to protect themselves from violence because they are so opposed to it!

My response to that is first: Wow. Second, I say no more Mr. Nice Guy. Seriously, I understand we are all one, our planet and our people. But if you really want to get deep, you could say that Mr. Nice Guy is precisely who is killing everything we have been given on this earth of ours. Because somebody didn’t want to rock the boat, we have food that is unhealthy, violence in our schools, and countless other atrocities. Say goodbye to Mr. Nice Guy and take a stand for what is right. Personal safety is your right; and you are right to fight for it using martial arts or whatever self defense methods float your boat. Here are some keys to remember.

Equal and Opposite

There is a balance to using self defense in any altercation. You’ve heard before that every action can be met with an equal and opposite reaction. When you learn self defense properly, you will understand when to use force as well as how much force to use. Keeping in mind equal and opposite works well, especially when you have to take into consideration the fact that you may have to justify your self defense actions in a court of law. Yeah, I disagree with that too; but it is what it is. When you learn self defense, these are things you don’t initially think of.

Focus

In Martial arts training, on would learn a good deal of focus. And focus is essential when it comes to fighting off an attacker. Focus is even more important than strength when it comes to survival. If ever confronted, you must stay focused on your goal of survival. This is the only thing that really matters if you are facing an assailant.

Persistence

Persistence is essential in all areas; from training to actual fighting. Learning martial arts, or to learn self defense techniques, takes time and effort. In order to be effective, you’ve got to persist in training. In order to get away from an attacker, persistence may be necessary. You can never assume that your first move will do the trick. This is why teachers show you several techniques to use for self defense purposes. Commit to your goal of survival and persist until you are free.

To think in the right terms, free from Mr. Nice Guy on your shoulder, your mental development needs to progress right along with your physical training. Martial arts, combatives, whatever you choose; the mindset needs to be the same. And it cannot be a nice one.
