Remember…You will Forget

Recently I was reviewing some of the old martial arts moves I had learned in the past years of study.  I do this because it’s good to refresh your memory.  I’ve always said there is a place for martial arts and that some martial arts moves can be very handy in a fight.

While refreshing, it dawned on me how simple so many of these martial arts moves seem to be.  It would make perfect sense how one would think that this sort of training, especially if they are taking classes in a dojo, would be quite sufficient to use as their primary self defense.  Because of that realization, I wanted to hit on the issue of the adrenaline dump.  This way you can be reminded that you will forget everything you’ve learned…

Now that’s not exactly true; but it is directly to the point.  When faced with a real and present dangerous situation, your body will react strongly and immediately.  The unfortunate thing about training is that there is no way to teach this to someone (unless you follow them home and jump out of the bushes to grab them).  We all train with cooperative partners. We KNOW we’re training; and so those essential elements of stress and adrenaline.

This is why I think military self defense is the best way to go to really give yourself a fighting chance.  It is when I began moving away from martial arts moves and into military self defense training that I learned moves more effective for the type of real street fighting you or I may encounter.  The techniques are many; but by learning just a few of the powerful military self defense techniques, you have added a great deal to your safety tool box.

And the best part is, the actual moves that make up military self defense are very easy.   They are meant to be used in extremely stressful situations.  The moves that you learn have been developed by those who have been in those situations and have actually experienced the adrenaline dump that renders your cognitive thinking skills useless.

You may think that this adrenaline leaves you incapable of remembering any fighting moves at all; but the body works in mysterious ways.  When the moves that you learn incorporate large muscle groups, you are going to remember them far faster than you would compact martial arts moves.

Do what you can to train in practical situations; but always keep in mind to remember that you will forget.  Train again and again and again so that your body gets used to delivering a kick to the groin; or a palm to the nose, or an elbow to the side of the head.  Whatever the specific moves that will get you free from the grasp on an attacker, practice them time and time again.  The moves that are shown on my DVD program are all military style self defense moves.  They will come to you quickly and by more easily remembered.
