I’m Going to College..Why do I need to know about Date Rape?
If you are someone you know if headed off to begin their bright future at college, you may wonder what in the world date rape has to do with such a positive part of life. I completely understand that all good intentions are not to go to college to party; but to go and study and move on to a great career. However, the nature of college is that there will be some time spent out with friends or attending parties; that’s just the way it is!
You certainly want to enjoy every part of your life, including the college years. And that is why it is so imperative to arm yourself with knowledge about date rape and with some powerful self defense techniques.
Date rape is typically thought to involve the infamous “date rape drug”. In reality, a date rape drug can be any drug that inhibits your ability to make good choices. What have been dubbed date rape drugs are those such as the drugs Rohypnol, Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate (GHB) and Ketamine Hydrochloride. These particular drugs are well-liked by predators because they are pretty much undetectable in the system. The victim cannot taste or smell them and they work quickly. AND…they leave the system within about 72 hours of ingestion so unless a doctor specifically tests for them, and does so quickly, they will not find them (and hence be unable to prove date rape unless there is a formidable witness).
Believe it or not, arming yourself with information about date rape and date rape drugs is one of the best self defense techniques there is; one you won’t find on many self defense videos out there. It is important to understand what could happen so that you can develop good self defense techniques to ward off such problems.
When you are at a party or out with friends, you certainly don’t have your mind on what you learned in the self defense videos mom gave you before you went to college. You are living it up and having fun. But date rape is still a real and present danger in our society. As with crime in general, if you don’t face the fact that it could occur, you won’t take any of the necessary steps to arm yourself with protective self defense techniques.

By the way…alcohol, marijuana, and even antihistamines can be used to “loosen a girl up” and put her in the position of being taken advantage of. Clearly, the best advice is to turn down drinks bought for you and develop the motto that pills and parties don’t mix.
