What is Martial Arts
Though part of every culture around the world and used in some way by every police or military organization the majority of people still ask what is martial arts. Some think it is all about breaking brick, flying through the air, and ancient fighting systems developed in Asia centuries ago. Martial arts though are all about hand to hand combat and it doesn’t just come from Japan or even just from Asian countries. It is all around and it is part of our sports and our self defense. Wrestling, boxing, and fencing are all martial arts just like Tae Kwon Do, Karate, and Eskrima. It is all about optimizing your abilities as a fighter and getting the most for your effort. Skill allows you to talk on bigger and stronger opponents, and it multiplies the power of your strength even more. Martial arts are a much needed advantage.
Now despite sport martial arts taking over and being the style that represents martial arts for the most part it is important to understand that virtually all styles of martial arts were developed for combat and self defense. Sure some styles have been created to improve people’s physical fitness, mental health, and spiritual side, but in the beginning they were about learning how to fight back effectively. You can do sport martial arts, but keep in mind they’re just preparation for combat, and they will only condition you for battle. Real combat martial arts are all about doing anything necessary to survive and knowing when to act. When it is a real fight it is about life and death and you can’t leave that to chance.
What is martial arts is a question that you have to answer for yourself because you need to be the one to determine your strengths and weaknesses, and do a style that works best for you in a real world situation . You have the fight inside you and that is the first step in getting in the right mindset you need to survive. The second step is training the body so it will follow your will, and not fail you when you are in need. The list of actual styles of martial arts is long, but it is about doing whatever works in a given situation. Take moves from one style and mix them with moves from another style to make something that works for you in a combat situation.
