Chances are, anyone who has gone to any video store has seen Jet Li martial arts videos or have even seen his work in theaters. Growing up in China he began to perform martial arts, and became popular in the sport as he won gold and silver medals in many Chinese championships. His popularity in the championships helped him with his martial arts film career. Jet Li began his film career in the early 1980’s and made some popular Chinese martial art videos including the Shaolin Temple series, Once Upon a Time in China, and a Bruce Lee remake called Fist of Legend.
In the late 90s, Jet Li martial art videos came to Hollywood with his debut in Lethal Weapon 4. The producer of this film gave Li his leading role in which promoted his career as a Hollywood actor. Romeo Must Die came out in the year 2000 and was a big box office moneymaker. In his movies he often pairs up with other martial artists, and is set to come out with a movie featuring him with Jackie Chan.
In 2006, Jet Li stated in a newspaper that his film titled Fearless was his last martial arts epic, even though he plans on continuing his career in different film genres. In the future he plans on working with films in the action category and even specifically martial art films. The epic films he did in the past were much more in depth and usually have religious or philosophical issues. Despite him stopping the epic films, Jet Li martial art videos will be available for many generations to view. In the future, fans of his can look forward to a variety of martial art videos including a new film with Jackie Chan titled the Forbidden Kingdom which is based on the legend of the Monkey King from a popular folk novel in Chinese called Journey to the West.
Viewing Jet Li martial art videos allows viewers of any age to appreciate the skill and physical endurance he shows through his work. As an international martial arts film star, he brings attention to many martial art techniques and has also been responsible in making action films popular in the United States.
