Fighting Gloves
If you’re looking for fighting gloves for training you might be applying the word incorrectly. Sure there are gloves out there that are called fighting gloves, but the fact is what you wear them for isn’t fighting. Now you’re probably thinking mixed martial artists put on a hell of a fight with blood and everything else that goes along with it. Well, the fact is, if you put all the hype aside nobody is battling to death in the cage and if these fighters had a real feud you think they would wait to fight it out right? No – chances are a guy and his friends would probably wait outside a bar and wait for someone to come out and beat the hell out of him (and they would probably yield knives and bats too). That happens in real life all the time, and if you want to learn how to fight, stepping in the ring is just the beginning.
If you look at most martial arts competitions you will realize things are pretty civilized. There is a referee, there are breaks, and if anyone gets really hurt someone stops the whole thing because that isn’t fighting. In a competition match nobody is going to pick up a chair, pull a knife or throw a bottle. Nobody is going to come out of the shadows and strangle you, and you won’t have to worry about getting run over by their car if you win.
Combat sports are regulated and controlled so they are safe, and because they’re supposed to be fun. It takes a lot to train for those types of competitions, and it takes a hell of a lot of skill – but you don’t have to worry about the unexpected. Often times you know who you will fight well in advance, and if you have the flu you can call the whole thing off. In a real fight, you have to worry about everything happening – especially what you can’t see.
Now buy your fight gloves and enjoy your workouts, but know they’re just one tool that will help you learn self defense. Sure in a real fight you will probably do okay since you’re in such good shape and know how to hit, but what do you do when they start fighting dirty? What do you do when they keep coming? That is when the real fighting starts.
