Mixed Martial Arts Training
You’ve been watching hours and hours of sport combat, and you think you’d be good at it. After all you wrestled, and maybe you did some boxing or even a little karate – how hard could it be right? Well, you’re in for a world of hurt if you’re not ready. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will give you a good idea of just how brutal a mixed martial arts match can be, and if you don’t have the skills necessary someone will literally wipe the floor with you if they don’t slam you into the cage first. Mixed martial arts training involves a lot more than just reenacting the training scenes from the movie Rocky. If you’re going to make a go of it you need a lot of training, and you may have found your favorite sport.
Now you’ve heard mixed martial arts or MMA matches called no holds barred competitions, but do you know why they’re so few restrictions. Because so many styles are being used in a competition you have to allow people to do pretty much anything short of lethal techniques, but you also have let another fighter submit. There are two phases of an MMA fight, and you need to be skilled at both if you want to survive out on the mat. The first phase is called Stand-up where two fighters attack each other while they’re standing. They can kick and punch, and they can also wrestle with their opponent in what is called “clinch fighting”. When you’re standing the goal it to take them to the ground and make them submit or pin them to secure the win. The second phase is the ground phase where you’re wrestling on the ground for control so you reach victory conditions. If you’re weak in either of the two phases your opponent will exploit your weakness to the fullest.
Mixed martial arts training is no joke, and you can’t just rely on the skills you have. You have to train in grappling and striking and your endurance will be put to the test. Basically, you have to train hard in boxing and wrestling and be able to hold your own as you go back and forth. They might make it look easy on TV, but it takes months of hard physical training, and years of martial arts training to get there.
