Police Equipment

There is a ton of good police equipment out there for highly trained and motivated security guards, police officers, and security contractors. While there is no replacement for experience the right gear can make all of the difference in a street fight or other deadly situation. While it is always advisable to have some degree of combat martial arts or self defense training the right gear can give you at least one more option in a fight. The right training and the right equipment can help an officer get home to his or her family safe and sound.

Many items once only accessible to the military and large police departments are no available to smaller departments. Tactical vests, special weapons stocks, uniforms, and other military grade equipment can be bought and used to form a local Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team or hostage rescue unit. Batons, pepper stray, and other police equipment help give officers an edge when they are dealing with situations where verbal communication has failed, but deadly force isn't an option yet. If things get really desperate a fixed blade that is easy concealed can give an attacker a nasty surprise when you're locked in a grapple situation on the ground or standing. There are all kinds of protection for an officer now and Kevlar isn't just for vests anymore; body armor and even gloves can prevent cuts and bruises that could take you out of a fight. Just because your assignment or town never has any problems don't wait to be prepared. It is better to have the right equipment and never use it then not have it when you need it. Your martial arts training is a factor in your equipment selection so don't forget how important hand-to-hand combat training is.

The traditional gun belt which used to only have room for the baton and a firearm now has room for a chemical agent, a heavy duty flashlight and a variety of restraints and communication devices. The more equipment an officer has better suited they will be for the streets, but no amount of equipment can replace training and experience. Knowing when to use mace or when to go to a fire arm is as important as knowing how to use the tool. Just because your assignment or town never has any problems don't wait to be prepared. Be ready and able to deal with scum.
