Ninjitsu Equipment

An introduction to Ninjitsu equipment. It doesn't take much for the philosophy of a martial art to be lost. Even in modern times it is hard to keep things straight even when a teacher is open and has documented their work. Take Bruce Lee for example; there are many who claim to teach the style like the way he wanted, and even more claim connection to the great man. The lies only get worse as you get farther and farther away from the actual events and the individuals who took part in them. Others will tap into people's need to be part of something and will do whatever they can to sell them more gear and will gladly call items Ninjitsu gear to move product.

The mysterious shinobi or ninja has been the subject of much myth and speculation and there are few hard facts. Of coarse this hasn't stopped anyone in the martial arts community from claiming that they know all about the secretive group, their training methods, and their stealthy form of shadow warfare. Many claim to have been taught in secret or performed assassinations at the behest of foreign crime lords or even the Central Intelligence Agency. There are some practicing the old martial art in its traditional combat form, but like with most traditional martial arts these individuals are few and far between and they're surrounded by a legion of imitators. Even the Ninjitsu equipment being sold nowadays is suspect, and not necessarily traditional.

The ninja was skilled with a large variety of weapons and equipment and today some of these items can be purchased by students of the martial arts. Some things have been improved on like medical supplies and disguises, so there is no need to use the tools of the medieval assassin, and for some aspects of modern training conventional martial arts equipment will work well. Using the same training and equipment that you use for Judo, Jujutsu, Kendo will be fine, but keep in mind the ninja never looked to engage the enemy accept on their terms so stealth training is key. The ninja knew and used both Okinawan and samurai weapons in combat, so don't worry if the catalog you're looking at doesn't put it in with the other Ninjitsu equipment. Items like grappling hooks, climbing claws, boots, and uniforms are good tools, but they don't make you a ninja.
